After having Bariatric surgery, it is very important to follow the dietary guidelines recommended by your nutritionists. These guidelines have been carefully designed by your health care with the goals of limiting the amount of calories you take in and providing a properly balanced diet to avoid vitamins and minerals deficiencies and to preserve your muscle mass strong.

General Guidelines for the Diet Plan-
- Always have a balanced diet.
- Always eat food in small portions and regularly.
- Do not leave food out for more than 3 hours.
- Stop eating if you feel pain, fullness, restlessness, nausea or vomiting. If the food is not tolerable, don't force yourself.
- Eat slowly and chew the food at least 20 times before swallowing.
- Do not use a straw, drink or carbonated drink, this can introduce air into your newly created pouch and cause abdominal pain or discomfort.
- Always say no to sugar, sugar-rich foods, carbonated beverages, deep-fried foods, concentrated sweets and fruit juices.
- For the first months after surgery, your caloric intake should be between 300 and 600 calories per day, followed by 800 to 1200 calories per day.
Liquid Diet Plan-
- Always try to keep yourself hydrated and drink water frequently.
- Drink at least 2 liters of fluids per day.
- Avoid carbonated and sweeteners and caffeine food from your liquid.
- Do not taking liquids with food.
- Always carry a liquid diet with you.
- Drink fluids in between 2 small meals.
- Try to avoid alcohol.
SUPPLEMENTS:
- Protein-rich food-
After surgery, your food intake will be low, which can result in a loss of muscle mass in your body. To avoid these problems, eat foods rich in high protein.
High-protein foods include poultry, soy milk, cheese, yogurt and other milk products, eggs and meat.
The minimum intake of protein should be 65 to 75 grams per day.
- Minerals and Vitamins rich-food-
You may need to take mineral and vitamin supplements as prescribed by your doctor to prevent nutritional deficiencies.
Nutritional supplements may include calcium, vitamin D, vitamin B12, selenium, folic acid, iron, copper, zinc, etc.
Note: All tablets prescribed by your doctor should be crushed into small pieces as it may be difficult for the tablets to pass through the new anatomy.
