What Is a Inguinal Hernia?
A hernia occurs when the inner lining of your abdominal wall begins to weaken, resulting in a bulge or tear. In the same way an inner tube pushes through the damaged tire, and it pushes the wall of the inner lining of the abdomen through the weakened area to form a balloon-like sac in the abdomen. This can allow a loop of intestine or stomach tissue to be pushed into the tear. Because in some patients, hernias can cause discomfort, pain or other potentially serious problems that require emergency surgery.
Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Surgery
Robotic and laparoscopic hernia repair are techniques that are successful with small incisions, using specialized surgical instruments and often the use of gauze. Patients undergoing minimally invasive repair usually benefit from easier recovery, lower return to work, and normal activity as compared to open repair.
Why need Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Surgery
The laparoscopic approach is an operation in which several small incisions are made on the abdomen. And the laparoscope (a camera) is inserted through these incisions (a hollow tube). And your surgeon works “inside” using special instruments. The hernia is repaired from the inside. A piece of surgical mesh is placed to cover the hernia defect. The mesh may or may not be fixed in place using staples, tacks, adhesive sealant, or stitches. This operation is usually performed under general anesthesia.
