Introduction –
An anal fissure is a thin tear that stretches out
from the muscles that control the rear-end (sphincters) up into the anal canal.
These tears as a rule create when anal tissue is harmed during a hard-solid
discharge or when higher-than-typical strain creates in the anal sphincters.
Symptoms
An anal fissure may cause
one or more of the subsequent symptoms:
·
a visible tear within the skin around
your anus
·
a skin tag, or small lump of skin, next
to the tear
·
sharp pain within the anal area during
bowel movements
·
streaks of blood on stools or on toilet
paper after wiping
·
burning or itching in the anal area
Diagnoses –
A fissure specialist doctor
can usually diagnose an anal fissure just by examining the world round the
anus. However, they may want to perform a rectal exam to confirm the diagnosis.
During this exam, the doctor may insert an anoscope
into your rectum to form it easier to ascertain the tear. This instrument may
be a thin tube that permits doctors to examine the anal canal.
Using an anoscope can also help your doctor find
other causes of anal or rectal pain like hemorrhoids. In some cases of rectal pain, you'll need an endoscopy
for better evaluation of your symptoms.
Treatment -
Anal fissures are initially treated conservatively
with home remedies and OTC products that include adding bulk to the stool,
softening the stool, consuming a high fiber diet, and utilizing sitz baths.
Surgery by lateral sphincterotomy
is that the gold standard for curing anal fissures. Because of complications,
however, it is reserved for patients who are intolerant of non-surgical
treatments or in whom non-surgical treatments have proven to be ineffective.
